Why is the University refusing a better route?
The University wants to transfer road building to Escambia County. Greenbrier Boulevard is an Escambia County road. Any Greenbrier work will be at county expense. That is the reason for wanting the road on Greenbrier even though there are better and cheaper alternatives.
- UWF receives Capital Improvement Funds from the state from statewide tax revenue. The rest of the state shares in the source of this revenue. This source of funds is more and more limited.
- If Greenbrier is the route, the source of revenue will be Escambia County, and we Escambia County residents will bear the burden of the tax funds.
- The Greenbrier decision, although an inferior route, is a major cost shift to Escambia County resident and out of the University budget.
